There are models, and there is Shalom Harlow, whose talent is far more than gracing runways with her energetic walk and stunning beauty. In a behind-the-scenes video of Versace's Spring/Summer 2019 Campaign, Harlow reminds us why she is queen. Clad in an in-your-face floral-printed jumpsuit and an electrified brushed-up brunette curls, this spirited soul embraced the joy of the moment in the tune of funky music and the sound of the cheers in the background. She then gifts us with a strut, a stomp and a dance; the frills on her jumpsuit swaying along with the wind on her hair as she looks fiercely on the camera. The orange stripes, the bright floral colours, all shone on the black canvass as Shalom dishes a truly hypnotic move.
Versace's own Donatella exclaimed Brava! on her IG post, showcasing Versace's upcoming campaign in the backdrop. The tasteful styling was not a fairy godmother's miracle. A team was behind Shalom's beauty shot, rep’d by none other than makeup legend Pat McGrath, who served up a vibrant emerald green colour on her eyes graphed strongly with a winged look. Guido Palau is responsible for the retro curls which Shalom played with amicably during her shoot, which was manned by the genius Steve Meisel, who has gloriously captured this viral moment with his lens.
Glam squad? Check. Top photographer? Check. The next thing we know, Shalom’s dancing video became a party of its own, and many flocked to it with a gusto. This meme-worthy treat is ramped up with energy, glamour and the best names in the industry; there’s no wonder the internet is all-gaga about it.
Shalom, who rose in her supermodel fame back in the 90s, was first discovered as a young concertgoer in Canada (she was watching The Cure). Her debut was a dream for most girls –from just a regular high schooler to a model, Shalom has walked runways from Paris to New York. Further in her career, she transitioned into acting, landing roles on film and TV, most notably The Jury, Vanilla Sky and How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days.
But Shalom wasn't the only one in Versace’s newest campaign. She is joined by Bella Hadid and Irina Shayk, who also mesmerized the camera in their own sweeping looks. Bella in her sultry single-shoulder dress and bright pink shoulder bag; Irina in her glossy black number accentuated with hefty gold chains and a strong cat’s eye. Colour is in; this coming season, Versace introduces a collection of stunning one-pieces, plaid jackets, embroidered petticoat dresses and sharp suits in the contrasting mix of floral prints and black lace. All these are inspired from Gianni Versace’s heritage designs.
The holy trio makes up the 2019 campaign Versace EVERYWHERE, showcasing proud, strong women who are unafraid of being sexy. It is a name that becomes the subject of all the chatter; stirring the realms of fashion, art and music unapologetically. But no matter the difference or distinction, Versace will always be a family, and this bond will always be the heart of the brand.
