I'm pretty sure everyone who reads the news or at least is no stranger to scrolling through social media has already seen that video of a straw being removed from sea turtle's nose or a video of birds with all sorts of plastic wrapped around their necks or articles about washed up whales with their stomachs full of plastic, which was clearly the cause of death.
Based on these facts and more, I think we can all agree that single-use plastic is detrimental to our environment. So if it's so bad, why not go cold turkey and just quit it? Well, the fact it, we, humans, are quite lazy. Ditching it might mean going to greater lengths, sometimes quite literally, to buy produce that's not wrapped in plastic as well as maybe even saying no to some of our favourite items since there's no plastic-free alternative. So yeah, it does take effort, but on the other hand, there are a few really, and I mean really, simple solutions that everyone can implement in their everyday life without too much effort or cost. One of the easiest things, besides bringing your own reusable tote bag to the store, is not supporting the (plastic) bottled water trend in countries where tap water is the same quality, or sometimes even better, than its bottled counterpart.
I can already hear all those pesimists arguing how these small acts mean nothing and that real change can only happen when something is done on a bigger, national level but I beg to differ. I mean, I do agree things need to change on a bigger scale but I don't diminish our everyday acts as having no real influcece on the environment but back to those water bottles.
One of the brands creating water bottles I love is EQUA---a team of young, motivated minds breathing the creative spirit and drinking gallons of water, which is why their brand focuses on creating water bottles that are of high quality as well as beautifully designed, motivating you to stay hydrated.
Not only do they create beautiful bottles that help you help the planet, they also care about the environment on different levels as their main focus is to operate a business in a sustainable way.
They offer all sorts of bottles from glass ones, stainless steel ones, BPA-free plastic bottles as well as accessories like extra silicone straps, different caps and covers so you can fully customize your new Earth-friendly flask. Although all EQUA bottles are beautiful, the collection that probably stands out the most is the MISMATCH collection of bottles made of borosilicate glass. And the best part? They come with faux leather covers that protect your bottle from breaking as well as enable you to completely personalize your hydrating experience.
One other thing that I’m also excited to try out in the Spring when it’s released is EQUA SMART---a smart water bottle that keeps track of your water intake and makes sure you stay hydrated by sending you glow reminders when needed in order to prevent dehydration. Pretty cool, eh?
EQUA also quite often does collabs with local bloggers and artists and they started this year with a launch of a fabulous 3-day menu in collaboration with a plant-based food chef, part-time yoga teacher and the owner of Ayatana, Aleksandra. Sounds like a perfect start of a new year: delicious, nutricious food plus loads and loads of water to keep your body healthy and happy.
Now excuse me while I go hydrate myself, my EQUA is calling me.
