If there's a place where you can shop your favourite beauty stash and rub elbows with magazine editors at the same time, it's probably Glossier – the makeup brand owned by Into the Gloss blogger Emily Weiss. And if you're saying glossy-er, you're saying it wrong; there's a touch of finesse to it, like an actual glossing over. Glossier (say it with me, glossy-yay), the beauty bloggers' cult favourite, transcended from its digital boundaries into a two-story brick-and-mortar showroom at 123 Lafayette NY, December of 2016. One couldn’t miss it; it’s marked on the map with the upside-down banner and a long line of people waiting to get in. There's no excuse; if you want your dose of gloss, you'd have to wait – or get early before the opening hours.
The showroom wasn't always fabulous, but the employees were, for you might catch them giving out Glossier You samples so you can come into their space smelling nice, even if you were toasted under the hot sun. After a snug trip from the elevator, you'll reach the busy, jam-packed spot filled with girls testing the products lined on the pink shelves. It's pretty bare; the wooden floors, the blush coloured interiors and the bottles stashed recklessly on the shelves where the only things in the room, other than the warm spotlights that glares at you from above.
A brand with such following should be dressed in something spectacular, and on November 8, fairy godmother raised her wand and unveiled a remaking of this beauty-brand Cinderella. The curtains were unveiled; Glossier now dons an interior upgrade by Gachot Studios and architecture by P.R.O, and it’s nothing less than stunning. No longer will beauty bloggers and Instagrammers try to fit themselves in an almost bare room with an exhausted AC. The new Glossier is so spectacular, I'm planning to haul my bags and move right into it! I could sleep on its coral couch.
This renovation, “created as an immersive community space,” is described as “both a physical and sensorial embodiment of what makes Glossier, Glossier.” Still perched in its former penthouse suite, Glossier’s flagship store – a permanent, physical first from the brand – is created to connect old and new fans, binding everyone with a deep love for makeup and skin care.
Glossier’s flagship store welcomes you with a coral staircase, where you climb up feeling like a glammed-up Hollywood star. The door opens to an alluring space with marbled tables, pearl-white pillars, large mirrors and Art Deco nostalgia. It is roomy, it is fresh, it is in the brand’s signature pink! Not surprisingly, everything is washed up in blush hues and cloud-like textures that whispers refinery all around.
In need of a beauty tip? Hang out with Offline Editors, or dabble all about make up in the experiential Boy Brow Room. Here, the interiors glow with rosy colours and double slate sinks. Shelves are filled with products – and face towels – which you can freely experiment with, just as if you are in your own bath!
The best part? This flagship store is still filled with the same cordial warmth you receive from its former showroom glory. Plus, their employees are clad in chic pink jumpsuits. Give me one of those, please; and let them be my pyjamas.
The poppies on the vase, the elegant atmosphere and the absolutely stunning chairs that looked like they were papier mache? Come on. This flagship store is a stunner, and who doesn't want to have a bit of a gloss on a daily?
This is Glossier’s first, not the last, and you’d be seeing more of these elegant, millennial-pink stores popping up in your place soon.
