Summer is probably one of my oldest loves. I mean, what's there not to love about the heat, sunny weather, ripped shorts and tops showing just enough skin to keep ourselves cool but also not make others too hot, palm trees, the salty smell of the ocean, the smell of pine trees. Oh how I miss those days! Especially on days when I look out of the window and all I see is this weird white stuff coming from the sky, combined with sub zero degrees.
One other thing that I love when it comes to summer is swimwear. Oh the cuts, the colors and the patterns. But if you've read any of my previous articles, you probably know by now that it's so not just about how a piece of clothing looks like but I also want to know where it was made, by whom and what was the inspiration behind it. One other thing I'm picky about is the material aka »can you see the outline of my nipples through this?« Now, there's completely nothing wrong with nipples, but if I want to be topless, I just ditch the top rather than keep my nipples half-hiding behind semi-transparent material. So, as you might have guessed, this is quite a few criteria that needs to be fulfilled in order for me to go throgh with the actual purchase.
Enter Giakiara swimwear. A beautiful Slovenian brand ran by equally gorgeous owner and creative director Mateia Kogoj that made its debut in spring of 2016 when she collaborated with Frachella---a brand of accessories, focusing on bags, purses and backpacks---on a onepiece that was quickly sold out.
The thing is, Mateia didn't really want her own brand in the beginning, she just wanted to find cool swimwear but what do you do when you can't find exactly what you're looking for? That's right, you make it. It takes trial and error and quite a lot of patience as well as nerves, which I'm sure Mateia could confirm, but the reward is so much bigger, especially if people love (and want to purchase) your work. And boy do we love it!
Giakiara swim is designed and inspired by an exotic summer spent abroad---it’s a love affair with salt and skin. Simplicity complimented by a sophisticated selection of colors and minimalistic designs, the label offers a touch of audacity to our swim essentials. With its wild animal prints, high side cuts and deep necklines, Giakiara draws inspiration from the 80s and 90s, teasing you with just the right amount of skin but still leaving enough to the imagination.
Personally, I can't freaking wait until this cold and snow finally head back to the Southern Hemisphere or just stick to the glaciers. Until then, I'll be drooling all over ridiculously hot Giakiara's Instagram account and save my pennies so I can get all geared up for those sweet summer days, full of sunkissed skin and Giakiara. I'm thinking leopard for Summer of 2019. What about you?
